2012 Marriage Retreat

Derrick Harris obeyed the gospel in 1981 at the Fifth Ward Church of Christ in Houston, Texas. He was mentored and developed under the watchful eye of several leaders in the faith, including Bro. Thomas Foster who then served as the minister for the Fifth Ward Church of Christ. Bro. Harris began teaching and preaching while serving at the Fifth Ward congregation. To help prepare for his spiritual journey he began his biblical studies at the Houston Christian Institute under the direction of Bro. Thomas Foster.

Bro. Harris also served as the Deacon of Evangelism at the Hidden Valley Church of Christ.  His work involved organized canvassing/ door knocking, teaching, preaching, evangelizing and developing bible study material for the congregation.

As a member of the Highland Heights Church of Christ, Bro Harris continued to teach adult bible classes, visit the sick, visit nursing homes, conduct canvassing, home fellowships and ministered to the overall spiritual needs of the congregation while serving as a ministry leader in the absence of elders. Bro. Harris now serves as one of the Elders at the Highland Heights Church of Christ where he first became a member in 1998.

Bro. Harris has been married for over 24 years to Angela and they have one daughter Mary, a son Derrick Jr., and two grandchildren, Kyle and Dylan.

Derrick attended the University of Houston and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree, specializing in business management.  He served in the United States Army where he was stationed overseas in Korea. He is also a veteran of Operation Desert Storm.

Bro. Harris has over 20 years of management experience in various industries. He has worked for such companies as La Quinta Inn (General Manger), Studio Plus Hotels (District Manager), Shurgard Self Storage (Regional Manager and Real Estate Development project Manager), Starbucks Coffee Company (License District Manager) and Holiday Inn (Owner/Operator).

He currently works for Metro Self Storage where he is a District Manager providing leadership and direction for a portfolio of 104 stores located in Louisiana, Mississippi, Kansas and Texas.

Brother Harris enjoys the following in his free time:

Boating, fishing, bowling, and fellowshipping with spiritual friends and family.
